Guest Post: 5.11 Tactical Women’s Taclite Pro Pants Review

womenstacliteOk, so I finally caved and let the Noob buy me a pair of Taclite Pro women’s pants from 5.11 Tactical. Like the Noob, I have an absurd fondness for cargo pants. I own several pairs of them that are meant to be more fashionable than functional. They’re “cute” pants. Unfortunately, that means the pockets look nice, but don’t really have much room in which to put stuff.

Actually, in general, I think women’s pants don’t have enough room in the pockets. Not these, though. I’m pretty sure these are a scaled down version of the men’s pants. There is a pocket in front of the right hip for a pocket knife. Since I don’t have one, I use it to carry a tube of lip gloss. The left hip has a pocket that is perfect for my cell phone. I spent two hours today at the car dealership waiting for a cosmetic repair on the Noob mobile (not my fault, I swear). The phone was in the pocket, and wasn’t poking me at all.

The only difference I saw in my pants and the Noob’s is that the side pockets don’t have the soft lining and the places designed to hold extra magazines.

These are pretty true to other pant sizing. I normally wear a size 2 or 4, and picked the 2 in the Taclite Pros. I only did that because the fit was a little cuter than the size 4. If I was planning on pocket concealed carry, I’d have gotten the size 4. The smaller size is just a little too snug in the hips for that (on me, at least). The elasticized waistband has enough room for a subcompact gun to fit comfortably, though.

I don’t know if the Noob has ever mentioned this, but I’m also extremely petite. I’m 4’11”. Finding pants that aren’t ridiculously long is a pain for me. Since I’m too lazy to go to a seamstress, I’ve been folding the hems underneath the pants. I’ve got these folded under by only about 1.5 to 2 inches. According to 5.11 Tactical’s website, the inseam on the size 2 women’s pants is 30.25 inches. Luckily, they also come in a “long” version, which adds 4 inches to the inseam for ladies who are taller than I.

Besides being short, I’ve got curves, which I think http://www.511tactical.com/
5.11 accounted for pretty well. They left 10 inches between the waist and hip measurements, which is perfect for me.

The Taclite Pro pant fabric is also surprisingly comfortable. I don’t really feel like they are scratchy or need to be broken in. This fabric isn’t overwhelmingly warm either. It’s August in Florida, and I’ve worn these for the entire day on two different days this week.  While I wouldn’t want to take a long stroll on the beach in these right now, I’ve been comfortable in them while running errands. I’d have been dying in jeans.

These are great pants, and I think I want a couple more pairs.
