New Guide: Minute of Angle?

Continuing with our Year of the Rifle initiative, the following guide has been added to our Rifle Guides Section. Head on over there to read it or check it out below!

piSpend any amount of time looking at rifles and scopes and you’re going to see a strange acronym pop up: “MOA”. Those three letters stand for Minute of Angle. Strangely enough, that tells us absolutely nothing about what that actually means. Continue reading

Gear Review: LaserLyte Reaction Tyme Targets

ReactionTyme1It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of dry fire practice. It’s a great way to build that tasty muscle memory that leads to those delicious pistol shots. In the past, I’ve raved about the LaserLyte Laser Training System. It’s like adding sweet, butter cream frosting to your dry fire practice and the ability to analyse how you did is like putting sprinkles on that frosting. Continue reading

Free For All Friday: 3-21-14

ammo_shelf_thumbIt’s Free For All Friday again! This is the day where we focus totally on questions from our readers. We were kind of light on questions this week but the one we did get was a great one!

“My question is, are there good or better sites online to buy ammo? Local stores and the big box stores are sold out typically. In this time of ammo shortage, where is the best/cheapest ammo sources?“ -Skylar R. Continue reading

Pro-Defense Rail Mounted Pepper Spray

Pro-Defense-pepperSometimes I stumble across a product that I can’t personally figure out any practical use for or justification for purchasing. Regardless of that, for some odd reason, I still want it. I have no idea why. Such is the case of this non-lethal accessory for rifles and shotguns. If I were, say, a police officer I could easily see a ton of uses for this device. As a home owner, the closest thing to a tactical breech that I regularly encounter is trying to sneak into the fridge for an Oreo without the wife knowing. My fear of using it in my own home is that there would be a lot of collateral damage. I wouldn’t want my dogs or, heck, even myself to get hit by any stray mist. From what I’ve seen of many pepper sprays, there’s a good chance that the sprayer is going to get hit as well. The stuff can vaporize/ricochet off walls and wind can play a huge factor as well. That doesn’t stop me from wanting one, mind you.

Take a look at their stuff here: Pro-Defense

Fashion Tips for the Range

clubwearLast week, we talked about indoor and outdoor shooting ranges. I want to stay on the subject of shooting ranges a bit longer. I say this because a friend of mine emailed me a picture he took of a group of people at a range. As soon as I saw the picture, I didn’t even have to read the story that followed. I could pretty much guess and, as it turns out, I was right.

I can’t post the picture because I don’t have permissions of the people in it but let me try to describe the scene for you: It was a group of people. There were 3 women and one guy. All parties involved were dressed to impress. I’m not talking business casual, I’m talking borderline club wear. There was cleavage and skin showing all over the place. They guy had on casual shoes with no socks, the ladies were wearing heels and had some really low cut dresses. Actually, I wouldn’t exactly call them dresses. They were more like gownless evening straps. The picture at the top was the closest I could find. Just image a giant douchebag standing behind them with orange skin and making a duckface and the picture would be perfect. Continue reading

Free for All Friday: 3-14-14

piIt’s Pi day! This is the day we celebrate the most irrational of numbers. This March 14th also coincidentally falls on Friday. Friday..pi day…lots of rhymes. It’s also the first Free For All Friday after the Spring time change. Fun fact: in the days following the Spring change, the number of heart attacks increase. There’s also more car wrecks as well as more workplace accidents. After the fall change, where we gain an hour of sleep, the number of heart attacks and accidents go down when compared to the national average throughout the rest of the year. The short of this is: make sure you sleep. It’s important. Continue reading

Gun Ranges: Indoor vs. Outdoor

indoorIt’s not enough to just buy a gun. You’re going to want to practice with it and get proficient with it. That means that you’re going to need to shoot it. Unless you’re fortunate enough to have a yard like Hickok45, you’re going to have to eventually go to a shooting range. Now, we’ve talked in the past about what to expect on your first day at the range. While I’m sure there’s a great segue from that opening to “let’s talk about picking a range that’s best for you”, Daylight Saving time started today and my brain just working enough to come up with one. So with that in mind, let’s talk about picking a range that’s best for you. Continue reading

Beginner Gun Review: Taurus 627 Revolver

IMG_2267You may remember that I reviewed the Smith & Wesson 686 a couple months ago. In that review, I discovered that I don’t, in fact, hate revolvers. Who knew? Anyway, tragedy of tragedies: I had to give the 686 back to my friend. Pro tip: buy the gun from a person BEFORE you publish a glowing review of it. So there I was revolverless and in need of a revolver. We’re not talking “honey, I really need this Desert Eagle .50AE for…uhm…reasons.” but more of “In order to get this certification, I need a revolver with which to practice.” Continue reading
