Gear Review: 5.11 Tactical 36″ AR15/M4 Gun Case

IMG_3304Before I go any further, let me make one thing clear: I have always preferred hard cases to soft. Every case I have for transporting my guns is a nice, solid, lockable hard case. I just feel like my guns are more protected in the hard cases. Also, if things go south and I don’t have time to get the gun out of the case, I can just hit someone with it.

So when I came into possession of a soft side AR-15 case from 5.11 Tactical, I had my reservations. Now, I am on record as loving 5.11 Tactical and the awesome toys products they sell. If it was a product by any other company, I probably would have respectfully declined it in favor of my beloved hard shell cases.

Still, it’s been a bit since I’ve done a review so far be it from me to look a gift horse in the mouth. Let’s see how this bag stacks up! Continue reading

Product Review: Ballistol

ballistolI’ve been using Hoppe’s No.  9 to clean my gun since I’ve owned guns. Mainly because they sell it everywhere here and it’s cheap. It was only well into my hobby that I noticed the little disclaimer on the label that said “Not recommended for use on Nickel plated guns”…which is lovely considering my first gun was nickel plated. Fortunately, that revelation came right after I had swapped to a Glock as my primary weapon. I have used Hoppe’s No. 9 to clean my Glock from day one.

I had heard the great Hickok45 wax poetic about Ballistol on many occasions. This is a man whose opinion I respect greatly so his enthusiastic praise of the stuff, which doesn’t sponsor him in any way, made me at least curious about it. Continue reading

Gear Review: 5.11 Tactical Pants/Shorts

tduAnyone who knows me, knows that I love cargo pants. I own about 30 pairs of pants/shorts and 28 of them are cargos. It’s not just me though. Pretty much every geek and nerd that I know loves them as well. There’s something about having all that extra storage space. I think my freakish love of extra pockets started way back when I was in high school. I started doing magic tricks as a hobby when I was quite young. When cargo pants hit the scene, I quickly realized that I could carry many more tricks with me what to impress the ladies with. After all, that’s why anyone picks up magic: to impress the ladies. It doesn’t ever work, mind you, but still.

Where was I?

Oh yeah, an unhealthy obsession with cargo pants. I’ve recently discovered a maker of pants that has made my pocket dreams come true: 5.11 Tactical. Sorry Old Navy, Arizona and Dockers. I’ve…I’ve found someone else. It’s not you. It’s me. 5.11 Tactical is just able to satisfy me in ways you’ve never been able. Maybe we can still hang out every now and then when the Tactical Pants are in the wash? Continue reading
