Rock Island Auction Company has an abundance of fascinating historical items for sale in their upcoming September Premiere Firearms Auction, to be held Sept 13th-15th, 2013.
While RIAC is no stranger to a firearm with a unique history, seldom are so many present at a single event. Crossing the auction block will be a Colt revolver attributed to Butch Cassidy, a Walther pocket pistol attributed to Adolf Hitler, a Smith & Wesson revolver attributed to the infamous outlaw Emmett Dalton, a Smith & Wesson revolver present at the 1893 Columbia Exposition whose “siblings” can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and most notably an elk skin jacket from the Battle of Little Bighorn and possibly worn by George Custer himself.
In addition to the historical items, RIAC will be selling a rifle with the potential to break into the ranks of the Top 5 Most Expensive Firearms ever sold at auction. It is an iron frame Henry lever action rifle in mint condition – the finest of its kind in existence. Most Henry rifles appear with brass frames, but a few iron frames were made early in the production run. This rifle is serial number 49 and was made in 1861. It comes to RIAC from the Collection of Mac McCroskie, a man whose legendary collection has achieved a cult-like status from fellow Winchester aficionados. This gun’s immaculate condition is nothing short of miraculous. Its estimate is $600,000 – $900,000.
